This year’s Luxemburg-Liebknecht-Lenin demonstration on January 10 in Berlin was marked by snowstorms and freezing temperatures. But our “LLL-Weekend”, held on the Saturday before the demonstration, was a surprising success. At the seminar about the left in Europe, just over 50 people – from Berlin, Dresden, Kiel, Rostock, Hamburg, Essen, Saarbrücken, Witten, Zurich, Prague, Liberec and Paris – participated in the discussion, and at the class war hip-hop concert afterwards there were more than 100 people. »»»»

Perspectives for the Kurdish liberation movement 25 years after the begin of the armed struggle in Northern Kurdistan
Twenty-five years ago, on August 15, 1984, the armed struggle began in the Kurdish regions of Turkey. The left-wing Workers Party of Kurdistan (PKK) called for a struggle against the military dictatorship which had come to power in the coup of September 12, 1980, and against the decades-old oppression of the Kurds in Turkey. On this day, their Kurdish Liberation Forces (HRK) attacked the state institutions in the villages of Eruh and Semdinli and gave the signal for a broad guerrilla struggle in the Kurdish regions of Turkey. »»»»
On 17 November more than 80,000 school and university students in 60 German cities demonstrated as part of the nationwide “education strike”. On International Student’s Day, the largest demonstrations took place in Berlin (12,000), Munich (10,000) and Wiesbaden (10,000). The education strike was smaller than the strike in June this year when more than 250,000 people were on the streets – but this was primarily due to a shorter mobilization period. Roughly 50 universities were occupied in the two weeks before the strike. In addition, during the week the first two high schools were occupied, in Dusseldorf and Berlin-Neukölln. »»»»

Interview with Raul Godoy, worker and union activist at the Zanon Factory.
Raul Godoy (born 1965) works on the varnishing line in the ceramics factory Zanon in the Patagonian city of Neuquén in Argentina. He is also vice president of the Union of Ceramics Workers of Neuquén (SOECN). He played a leading role in the workers’ struggle at Zanon in 2001-02 which ended in the occupation of the factory by the workers. Since 2002, the Zanon workers have been producing under workers’ control and have renamed their business FaSinPat (“Fábrica Sin Patrones” – factory without bosses). »»»»
