The independent youth organization REVOLUTION supports the following petition against the firing of Orlando Chirino from PDVSA in Venezuela

Orlando Chirino, a leader of the workers’ movement in Venezuela, has been fired from his job at the state oil company PDVSA. This decision by the PDVSA leadership and the Labour Ministry – under the direction of the the “socialist” government of Hugo Chávez – is just the latest in a series of attacks against the independent workers’ movement in Venezuela. With the firing of Chirino, they hope to weaken the left-wing in the trade union UNT and to bring the entire workers’ movement under government control. »»»»

The BILD is Germany’s biggest right-wing tabloid, well known for its frenzied attacks against immigrants and the left. The day after the Anti-G8 demonstration in Rostock its headline screamed: “Do you want dead, hooligans?” (no one “died” as it happens, afterwards it transpired there were only two “seriously” injured police officers). But on Monday (January 14, 2008), BILD reported that; “more than 10.000 demonstrators from (across) Germany, Italy, Spain, Austria” participated in the demonstration to commemorate the three L’s (Rosa Luxemburg, Karl Liebknecht and Vladimir Lenin). »»»»

Stop the attacks on Kurdish people in Germany, Turkey, northern Iraq and everywhere!

Beginning on December 16 of last year, the Turkish air force has been bombing Kurdish villages in the north of Iraq. According to official statements by the Turkish government and army command, these bombardments were aimed at positions of the Kurdish Workers Party (PKK). »»»»

How should we assess the government of Hugo Chávez?

You have to admit one thing about the Venezuelan president Hugo Chávez: he knows how to get headlines of the international press. A lot is written about his anti-imperialist speeches (he called George Bush “the devil” in front of the UN assembly) and his unusual measures (he created a special time zone for Venezuela so school children could sleep longer). »»»»

Revolution is magnificent. Everything else is nonsense.* (Rosa Luxemburg)

– Everything sucks! There’s not nearly enough apprenticeship positions… school is extremely annoying… university – if you even have the chance – is only about money… there’s more and more work for less and less money for some people … for the others there’s the unemployment office… deportations into the states of bloodthirsty dictators… Nazis hunt down “un-German” people… worldwide 24,000 people die of hunger every day and countless more die in wars… add to this smiling faces in the executive suites of the big corporations, who make record profits every year – it sucks! »»»»

The very term “Democratic Centralism” calls forth images of the Politburo of the CPSU and the slavish obedience of the Stalinist parties. Despite this association, we from REVOLUTION defend the term of the principle behind it, because we see in it the exact opposite of Stalinism*. »»»»

On November 10, an organization with the name Mladí Národní Demokraté (Young National Democrats) organized a demonstration against the presence of Czech troops in Iraq, right through the Jewish Quarter of Prague. The Prague magistrate had banned the demonstration because its official motto was a false front and its purpose was to “incite racial hatred”. »»»»

What kind of party is the United Socialist Party of Venezuela?

“The Association of Socialist Capitalists” is just one component of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV). The PSUV, which is still awaiting its often postponed founding congress, has one in four Venezuelans signed up for the party, and of all the parties in the world claiming to be socialist, it is second in size only to the Communist Party of China. »»»»

Solidarity with the left-wing organizations that are under attack!

In the past weeks there has been a massive wave of repression in Euskal Herria (the Basque Country). On October 5, 23 members of the prohibited left-wing party Batasuna were arrested on charges of “membership in a terrorist organization”. On the same day, the office of the legal party EHAK (Communist Party of the Basque Territories) in Donostia/San Sebastián was occupied by the police. »»»»

At the international conference of REVOLUTION on July 28, 2007 in Liberec, Czech Republic, a big majority of members decided that we need a new logo. A dozen proposals were submitted and it took several weeks to hold a vote amongst all our members internationally. But in the final run-off, a two-thirds majority voted for the logo you see above. »»»»

Startbox-iThesesGeorge Bush. He sucks, and we all know it. There are a multitude of reasons to take offense at George Bush and his visit to Australia’s shores this September: the Iraq war, global warming, the attacks on workers, students and indigenous Australians carried out by his friend John Howard… Thousands of people from across Australia will protest against the George Bush and the APEC summit in Sydney on September 8th. »»»»
