Fight Imperialism! Against the NATO summit on April 3-4, 2009!
At the beginning of April we are going to see a showcase of those who organize misery and death all around the world. NATO wants to celebrate its 60th anniversary in Strasbourg and Baden-Baden. The bourgeois media will faithfully report which head of state and which top-ranking general prattles about what in front of the press. We will hear about „worldwide terrorism“, „stabilisation“, about „peacekeeping operations“ and „global security“. In fact, NATO is no guarantee of security. Instead, it stands for the aggressive enforcement of the interests of the most powerful governments and the capitalists standing behind them. »»»»
The capitalist system is responsible for the crisis, and the capitalists at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos can’t repare it.
For years, the World Economic Forum has taken place in late January in Davos, always accompanied by protests and counter-events, because the self-appointed world leaders assembled in the Grison mountains don’t necessarily meet with approval. But this year, everything is different. At least, that is what the organizers of this unequaled parade of the world elite want us to believe. They tell us that in the last few years, most of the participants were only there to the celebrate at the parties held during the forum, which are well-known in higher circles of society. That means they have bled us for years and spent billions so that a few managers and politicians could celebrate in a hermetically sealed-off Davos! »»»»
Solidarity with the youth protests in Greece!
For the last several days, the news has been filled with reports of what is happening in Greece. Left-wing youth have started the biggest riots in 25 years and according to different sources, Athens’ left-alternative neighborhood Exarchia is completely cop-free. How did this happen?
The reports differ a lot. The Greek police claim that a ricochet bullet hit the fifteen-year old Alexandros Grigoropoulos in the chest, after “30 autonomists” had attacked a police car. Two of the three bullets fired were aimed at the ground, one of which hit the young man in the chest. This story is dubious. »»»»
A revolution took place here.
What? Here? Next to the supermarket where workers slave away for low wages? In front of the school where more than 30 pupils in each class remain well-behaved for the teacher? Behind the apartment building where Nazis attack people who they see as different?
Red flags waved here? Armed workers marched by this spot and chanted “All power to the councils”? Revolutions take place in Latin America, maybe also in France. But here? »»»»
100,000 school students across Germany went on strike on Wednesday, November 12. In more than 40 cities there were rallies and demonstrations instead of classes. In many places, university students and teachers expressed solidarity. The walkout was directed against overcrowded classrooms, the lack of teachers and the reform of the “abitur” program (the high school degree which qualifies for university), shortening it from nine to eight years. The strike was also against Germany’s three-tiered school system, which leads to education levels in Germany being more closely tied to social status than in any other developed country. »»»»
On October 29 there were protests in front of the bank UBS
Despite the financial crisis, despite the massive drain of deposits and the losses from speculative trading, UBS announced that it would pay millions in bonuses to its cadre. To protest against this, the youth party of the Social Democratic Party of Switzerland, the JUSO, called for rallies across the country on October 29 in front of the branches of the largest bank in Switzerland. »»»»
On October 4, there will be a mass demonstration in Bilbo (Bilbao) against the wave of repression which is hitting the left-wing independence movement in the Basque Country. In the last weeks, the Spanish state has banned two Basque political parties: the EHAK (Euskal Herrialdeetako Alderdi Komunista, Communist Party of the Basque Territories) and the EAE (Eusko Abertzale Ekintza, Basque Patriotic Action). »»»»
The flow of people from the Brandenburg Gate to the Victory Column in the heart of Berlin seemed truly endless. On 24 July, up to 200,000 people came to Berlin’s central park, the Tiergarten, to hear a speech by U.S. presidential candidate Barack Obama. As with the “fan mile” for the European Cup, which had been in the same place on month earlier, there were jumbotrons alongside the countless beer and sausage stands. »»»»
The youth organization REVOLUTION in the Czech Republic recently invaded a closed military area in the Brdy mountains. Why? Because an American radar base is planned there.
For more than two years, Revo has been part of a large coalition called “Ne Základnám” (No Bases) which fights against the plans of the Czech and US governments to build a radar base in the woods near Prague. »»»»
We of the independent youth organization REVOLUTION express our solidarity with the student in Huddersfield (UK) who was attacked by fascists on May 30. This young woman was thrown to the ground, kicked in the ribs and slashed at with a knife. She was called a “Dirty Red”, a “Filthy Lesbo” and a “Britain-hater”. »»»»
About 8,000 school students left their classes on May 22 and demonstrated through the center of Berlin to the school administration building. The protest was directed against classes being cancelled, the lack of teachers, and also against Germany’s three-tiered school system which discriminates against the poor and immigrants. The strike, the third in the last two years, had been organized by the school students’ initiative “Tear down the blockades in education!” »»»»
